EDUCATION

All diamonds are unique and individual, created by nature, polished by humans. The IDRC produces quality reports for loose, polished diamonds, describing the unique measurable features of a diamond according to international standards, focused on the “4 C’s” Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut.

POLISHED DIAMONDS

Once a rough diamond has been fully examined, the stone is marked to decide how it should be cut to yield the greatest value. Due to the diamond’s atomic structure, it can be cleaved in four directions parallel to the octahedron crystal faces. This process is what produces the beautiful facets you find in diamonds which make them sparkle. Only then, they are sent to be certificated and graded using the industry standard 4 C’s criteria.

ROUGH DIAMONDS

These diamonds are oily and dull. In order to bring out their beauty, they must first be cut and polished by a professional polisher. Although some of this work is currently accomplished through the use of computerized equipment, much of it is still done manually, using strict and meticulous techniques for the creation of polished diamonds. Only then, the beauty of a diamond emerges.

COLOURED STONES

There are a collection beautiful stones which make great alternative to diamonds. These are precious stones such as Sapphire, Emeralds and Ruby’s. Some of these are just as strong as diamonds and carry some of the most richest of colours. Just like the 4C’s they carry their own criteria which consist of clarity, colour and origin.

PEARL

Natural pearls are extremely rare so you’ll probably be looking at types of cultured pearls. The different types are: saltwater South Sea, Black Tahitian, and akoya pearls; and freshwater pearls. All carry a different origin and story. Pearls also come in a wide range of beautiful colours. Pearls are considered quite soft (3 on Mohs’ scale, which is a measurement of a gemstone’s resistance to scratching).
